Veterinary Regenerative Medicine

We produce our own blood-derived, regenerative products, namely Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Interleukin Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP) in our in-house laboratory. Both these products are obtained using gold-standard techniques and equipment.

PRP

PRP therapy is mostly used for tendon and ligament injuries; it is intended to support and enhance tissue healing. It can also be administered directly into joints.

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. In other words, out of a large sample of blood, we spin, separate, recollect and suspend platelets in a small volume of plasma, ready to be injected into a lesion in a much more concentrated form.

Platelets contain a large quantity of growth factors. By squeezing them in a small volume and injecting them in a specific area we can deliver a potent stimulus to tissue regeneration and healing.

PRP is our treatment of choice following a tendon or a ligament injury: the platelet concentrate is injected directly into a tendon or ligament defect using ultrasound guidance for optimal accuracy.

IRAP

We produce IRAP in our own lab by incubating centrifuged blood samples at an appropriate temperature, using specific blood tubes. We are able produce 5 to 6 IRAP doses out of each blood-sample collection, which makes it quite cost effective. IRAP doses can also be frozen and used at a later date.

IRAP has proven to be an effective treatment for lameness originating from a joint, used in horses which are not responsive to routine corticosteroid injections.
